bridge service and ministry

Service and ministry are integral parts of living as followers of Jesus should. Although that includes our actively showing love to one another within the church through helps and concern, we intently aim to never limit ourselves to just an inward-only focus. It is our desire, vision, and calling to also show God's love outwardly through service and ministry to others.

Because we are only beginning as a church we have somewhat limited human resources. If you are not participating in a local church and would like to help us seek to show God's love through ministry and service, please contact us - or just drop in some Sunday evening!
STRONG WALK (spiritual warfare study)

Through the fall 2009 semester we offer concurrent small group studies through the excellent biblically-based (Ephesians) workbook, Strong Walk. It's a 6-week study aimed at practical Christian life transformational experience of following Jesus with spiritual strength. Each group meets once per week for 6 weeks on campus. E-mail us for more information, or call 860-477-0630.

CHILDREN'S BACKYARD BIBLE WEEK, 8/3 - 8/6

A free, fun week for children to learn about the bible while enjoying music, games, crafts, and a great lunch together. Held at our pastor's home in Storrs, 8/3 through 8/6. We are already looking forward to next summer's backyard bible week!

MUSIC & WORSHIP ARTS

We are thankful to have skilled musicians leading us in worship through music. We hope to introduce more arts into our worship service. There is no shortage of creative ways & means through which we can be led to worship, praise, & thank God. Drama? Art? Video/Film? Writings?

SPRING BREAK '09 MISSION TRIP

Last Spring Break, March 8th-14th, The Bridge went on our very first mission trip! We took a group of 5 to South Carolina, where we helped with Intra-coastal Outreach Ministries in the neighborhoods of Myrtle Beach.

update on food drive

We were able to distribute over 1,100 flyers requesting food donations to homes in the Storrs Mansfield area, and as a result received food donations from 237 homes. We were then able to help replenish 3 different area food pantries: Town of Mansfield's Human Services, Storrs Congregational Church, and Covenant Soup Kitchen at Saint Pauls Episcopal Church in Willimantic.

We did this because...

  • we know there are people without enough food, and we want to help, (Romans 12:13).
  • we know that true religion is about holy living and meeting real needs, (James 1:26-27).
  • we want to encourage others to show love and goodness, (Hebrews 10:24).
  • of a faith and love that wants to be expressed in real and helpful ways, (Galatians 5:6b).
  • we want to express our love to God, and one way to do that is to do as He wants us to.
  • God calls for our sharing of food with the hungry, (Isaiah 58:7),
  • God wants us to continue Jesus' ministry of helping others in need, (Matthew 25:35).

Our deepest appreciation and gratitude goes to God who has blessed us in many ways to allow us to have done this project for Him. And to the many who participated in the project, we want to say thank you for helping build a bridge of God's love over which food can flow to the hungry in our area.
